The Israeli occupation authorities released Palestinian nurse Tasneem Marwan Shafeq Al-Hamss on Thursday, November 27, 2025, after nearly two months of detention following her abduction from a medical point in Khan Younis. Her release came as part of a group that included five other Palestinian detainees.
Details of Tasneem Al-Hamss’s Abduction and Arrest
Tasneem was abducted on October 2 at around 9:10 AM, when an Israeli special force unit in a “Jeep” stormed a medical point run by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Mawasi area of Khan Younis. She was taken to an unknown location before being transferred to Ashkelon and Damon prisons.
Throughout her detention, she was subjected to a complete ban on visits, preventing her family and lawyers from contacting her. According to the Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights, Israeli authorities denied her lawyer access until October 16, after which the Be’er Sheva court extended her detention for 45 days without presenting any clear charges.
Connection to the Earlier Abduction of Her Father, Dr. Marwan Al-HamssTasneem’s
case is closely linked to the prior abduction of her father, Dr. Marwan Shafeq Al-Hamss, who was kidnapped by Israeli forces on July 21, 2025, during a visit to the Red Cross Hospital in western Khan Younis. He remains held in Ashkelon Prison and has been denied lawyer visits since his arrest.
The Al-Hamss family previously accused groups led by collaborator Yasser Abu Shabab of involvement in the abduction of Tasneem, describing the incident as a continuation of systematic crimes targeting medical staff in Gaza.
Ministry of Health: Systematic Targeting of Medical Personnel
The Gaza Ministry of Health condemned the abduction of Tasneem and her father, stating that Israel continues to implement a policy of forced disappearance of medical personnel. The ministry confirmed that 361 healthcare workers are currently detained in Israeli prisons.
Tasneem Al-Hamss Released Alongside Five Other Detainees
Tasneem’s release, along with five other Palestinian detainees, followed extensive human rights appeals demanding disclosure of her fate and conditions of detention. Rights organizations stress that her case reflects the broader policy of arbitrary detention practiced by the occupation against civilians and medical workers.
