18 Killed and 46 Homes Collapse in Gaza Since the Onset of the Weather Depression
Gaza’s Civil Defense announced that 18 Palestinians have been killed following the collapse of 46 homes across the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire came into effect in October, amid worsening humanitarian conditions and ongoing consequences of the war.
The Civil Defense warned of a widening humanitarian disaster, stressing that the continued ban on reconstruction materials and the absence of temporary housing significantly increase the risk of building collapses, particularly with the arrival of winter and severe weather systems.
Winter Increases the Threat
According to the agency, thousands of residential buildings damaged during Israel’s war remain structurally unsafe, making them highly vulnerable to collapse during heavy rain and strong winds.
Displaced families have been forced to seek shelter in damaged and unstable buildings after finding life in tents increasingly unbearable and unsafe, further compounding the risks.
Urgent International Appeal
The Civil Defense urged the international community and humanitarian organizations to take immediate action to facilitate the entry of reconstruction materials and provide safe temporary housing for displaced families, warning that any delay will further endanger hundreds of thousands of lives.
Safety Warning to Residents
Residents were also urged to exercise extreme caution, ensure the structural safety of the buildings they occupy, and adhere to safety instructions issued by relevant authorities to protect their lives during harsh weather conditions.
